This type of ASD is much less common than the osteum secundum defect. In this anomaly there is deficiency of endocardial cushion tissue, so that the endocardial cushions partially fuse with each other and the septum intermedium is poorly formed. The septum primum does not fuse with the septum intermedium and there is a patent osteum primum.
